Dictating
Voice commands
Say "new line" or "new paragraph" to lay text out as you speak. Filler words are removed for you.
A few spoken phrases are treated as instructions rather than words. They let you lay text out without touching the keyboard.
Line breaks
| Say this | What you get |
|---|---|
| "new line" | Moves to the next line |
| "next line" | The same as "new line" |
| "new paragraph" | Leaves a blank line, then starts the next paragraph |
These are handy for email. You can dictate a greeting, a paragraph, and a sign-off in one go without reaching for Return.
Note These phrases are always commands. There is no way to make Voxy type the literal words "new line". This follows the same convention as Apple Dictation and Dragon. If you need the words themselves, type them.
Filler words
Voxy removes standalone fillers automatically:
- "um"
- "uh"
- "er"
- "erm"
It also removes accidental repetitions, like saying the same word twice while you gather your thoughts.
This happens in plain code before the AI step, so it works identically whether or not AI Refine is switched on — and even if Ollama is not running.
Phrases you define yourself
Beyond these built-in commands, you can create your own spoken cues that expand into longer text — an address, a booking link, a sign-off. See Phrases.
Changing tone as you speak
Saying a style name at the start of a dictation switches the tone for that one message. See Switching tone mid-dictation.
